Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP)
The Four Year Undergraduate Program as per provisions of NEP 2020 is introduced from 2023-2024 Academic Session, as notified by the Nagaland University.
In order to allow academic flexibility to the students to study the subjects/courses of their choice and for their mobility to different institutions, Nagaland University proposes to focus on courses which are interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature and accordingly FYUGP courses are being introduced in the undergraduate programme. This will facilitate the students to opt for different inter-disciplinary, intradisciplinary and skill-based courses depending upon their interests. The undergraduate degree will be of either 3 or 4-year duration, with multiple exit options within this period, with appropriate certifications, e.g., a UG certificate after completing 1 year in a discipline or field including vocational and professional areas, or a UG diploma after 2 years of study, or a Bachelor’s degree after a 3-year programme. The 4-year multidisciplinary Bachelor’s programme, however, shall be the preferred option since it allows the opportunity to experience the full range of holistic and multidisciplinary education in addition to a focus on the chosen major and minors as per the choices of the student.
NEP–2020 states that such “education would be aimed at developing all capacities of human beings – intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, emotional, and moral in an integrated manner” (NEP, 2020). The FYUGP curriculum and credit framework incorporates the principles of the newly introduced National Education Policy (NEP)–2020 which lays emphasis on imparting holistic and multidisciplinary education to learners.
