The Department of Environmental Science, Pfutsero Government College, in collaboration with the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), organized a one-day workshop titled “Skills of Beekeeping & Potentials for Entrepreneurship” at the college Seminar Hall today.
The event aimed to sensitize students and local enthusiasts to the ecological importance of bees and the vast economic opportunities within Nagaland’s apiculture sector.
The technical session was led by Er. Khuvozoyi Vese, Deputy Team Leader and Phek District In-charge of NBHM. Er. Vese emphasized that beekeeping stands as one of the most sustainable “green” businesses available to the youth of Nagaland. He provided a comprehensive overview of the technical requirements for maintaining healthy colonies, including hive management and the extraction of high-quality honey, while highlighting how bees significantly boost agricultural productivity through pollination.
Moving beyond theory, Er. Vese conducted a practical demonstration on the usage of modern beekeeping equipment. Participants were also given a field demonstration at the college’s own active beehive, providing a real-world look at colony maintenance.
In a gesture of support for the college’s environmental initiatives, Er. Vese donated essential beekeeping equipment to the institution to encourage continued practice and study. The program concluded with an engaging Q&A session.
The event wrapped up with light refreshments provided by the college. This collaboration between academia and the NBHM marks a significant step toward fostering self-employment and environmental stewardship among the student community.
