A one-day workshop on “Work Ethic and Workplace Etiquette” for non-teaching staff was held today at Pfutsero Government College, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 29th August, 2025.
The resource person, Dr. Elizabeth Walling, Principal of SCTE Kohima, spoke on the importance of sincerity at work under the light of God’s guidance. She encouraged staff to view the workplace as a family, where compassion is shown without complaint and mutual support is valued.
She emphasized that the years of government service are short, and therefore employees should strive to give their best during their time in service. Each individual’s unique talents, she noted, must be translated into quality work.
To leave a meaningful legacy, both ethics and etiquette were described as indispensable. Ethics concerns questions of right and wrong, while etiquette relates to good manners and everyday conduct. Among these, punctuality was highlighted as a key marker of professionalism. Responsibility, honesty, and trustworthiness — qualities practiced within the home — were also urged to be demonstrated in the workplace.
Participants were reminded that every profession carries its own ethical obligations which must be faithfully upheld. A lack of etiquette, the speaker observed, leads to formal order for implementation of the same; she gave examples of prohibition orders on spitting and throwing garbage to make her point. The resource person also stressed that although ethics and etiquette are not formally taught in classrooms, staff can impart these values to students through example, even in routine tasks such as assisting with documentation work.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Anungla Pongener, Principal of Pfutsero Government College, and concluded with remarks from Shri Chothazo Nienu, IQAC Secretary, who expressed appreciation to the resource person and participants for making the workshop successful.
The workshop was actively attended by the non-teaching staff of the college, who found the sessions enriching and relevant to both personal growth and institutional life.
