The Department of English is as old as the college. It was introduced since inception of the college in 1982, with English and Alternative English as compulsory papers at the Pre-University level. The college started degree course in 1989 as private under the aegis of Kohima College where candidates from the college were made to undertake the degree examinations. The college was upgraded to degree level under academic session and subsequently permission to start Honours courses in English was granted from 2004-2005 sessions. Student’s enrollment in English Honours has always been consistently high since its introduction. And in so far as examination results are concerned, it is on record that the department has been consistently producing good results both in General and Honours in successive University Examinations.
