Introduction:  The Department of Political Science was introduced in the College from its inception in 1982. Realising  its relevance for different spheres of life, for its being a multi-disciplinary character, many students who enter this College opt for this discipline as if it was a compulsory subject and so it remained as a popular discipline till today. For many years, the Department was offering the subject only as General Subject to students on account of shortage of faculty members. However, in the year 2014 Honours Course was introduced for the Department and that the First Batch our students have passed the Final Semester Examination in the year 2017 with encouraging result. The Second Batch of our Honours Students had performed better in this year’s Final Semester Examination, in which one of our students, Ms Dane Dukru mentored by the HOD, stood Second in University subject ranking by scoring 6.16 in the CGP Scale. Amongst the Optional Papers offered by the University for Honours in the Fifth and Sixth Semesters, the Department had chosen to specialise in two papers: (1) Local-Self Government and (2) International Law. These selections were a natural choice for the Department as the faculty members had their specialisation done in the papers at their Master Degree level from different universities. The faculty members  have been actively engaging themselves in various capacity building programs such as Orientation Courses, Refresher Courses, Summer/Winter Schools, Seminars and Workshops conducted by different Universities, Government Departments and NGOs.

Vision Statement: The Department envisages (a) to create an awareness in the students as to why they should study this subject in a serious manner as this subject encompasses the study of important values which are so vital for human society; (b) to create an awareness in the students about the political situations in the country and also on any new political development which are taking shape in the country as well as at the state level; (c) to create an awareness on the importance of the concept of development and Value-Based concept of politics; and (d) to create an awareness on the need to promote Gender Equality in the political life of the community.
