FROM THE VICE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

The preamble of the college reads: `The Public of Pfutsero administrative division and surrounding areas; having felt the need of imparting education from its own locality decided to establish a college at Pfutsero so as to provide universal education `for the betterment of physical, intellectual and spiritual development` of the individual, geared towards an efficient rural life, do hereby solemnly adopt this constitution on this day of the 4th of April,1981 (Anno Domino).

With the above objectives in view, the college started its first academic session on 14th July 1982 with nine students and three teaching staff; three more teachers were added a month later. The college initially ran up to the Pre-University (Arts) course. It was affiliated to North-Eastern Hill University in the year 1987 and was subsequently granted Pre-University (Arts) examination centre in 1993. With the birth of Nagaland University in September 1994, the college came to be under the new university. The college started degree course as private way back in 1989 under erstwhile NEHU, and since then successive batches of students from the college had been passing out the B.A. examinations under the aegis of Kohima College. The college was formally upgraded to Degree level by Nagaland University in the year 2001 with retrospective effect from 2000. The college was also granted permission to start Honours course in English, Tenyidie and History from 2004-05 academic session. The college was accorded degree examination centre by Nagaland University in 2007.

The college celebrated it`s 25th Anniversary (1982-2007) on 29th November 2007 with His Excellency, the Governor of Nagaland Shri. Sankaranarayanan as Chief Guest and the Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University Shri. Prof. K. Kannan as the Guest of Honour.

The Government of Nagaland took over the college on 1st April 2009 as the 14th Government College in the State. With the introduction of the semester system by Nagaland University in 2012, the college shifted over from annual to the new system. Permission for opening of Honours course in Political Science, Education and Economics was granted by the university from 2014-2015 academic session. With the approval of the University the college introduced Sociology both General and Honours with effect from the academic session 2016-2017. The college also offers add-on certificate course in floriculture and basic computer.

The college has been granted recognition under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956 in 2017. It has acquired it`s permanent campus measuring 10 acres at Pithalu in the vicinity of the town, which is in the developmental process. The college is also in active preparation for NAAC assessment and accreditation which is expected to culminate in mid 2019. Few years from now, it is hoped that the college will be able to occupy its permanent campus with all the up-to-date infrastructural facilities.
