The Pfutsero Government College held its 44th Annual Sports Week from 14th-16th October, 2026 at the Pfutsero Sports Complex. Shri Nyuvitho Nyuthe, Joint Director, Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland served as the Chief Guest for the occasion. Speaking on the theme “Unleash the Champion Within”, the Chief Guest reminded the students that it takes a long journey to become a champion and that becoming a champion requires dedicated discipline. He took the example of Boxing to drive his point, explaining how to compete in boxing in a weight category one has to pay attention not only to exercise and practice but also to the food the sport’s person consumes. Nyuthe also emphasized the importance of mental preparation and mental conditioning to compete at the highest level. He called for a change in mindset of both parents and children to give importance to sports activities. Nyuthe encouraged the college to pursue sporting excellence.
Dr Anungla Pongener, principal of Pfutsero Government College served as the Guest of Honour for the concluding ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, she encouraged the students to stay away from drugs by channeling their energy to physical activities.
The college held competition in team sports for both male and female such as football, volleyball and basketball, and athletic sports including running races in different categories, high jump, arm wrestling, and long jump, among others. The annual sports week of the college serves as an important co-curricular activity of the college shaping young minds towards holistic development.
